This video shows all the techniques I picked up in the few months of learning how to animate in 3D. All animations in this video are shown down below, in order of appearance, separate so you can view them on their own. These animations were created in 3DS Max as an introduction to 3D animation.
3D Ball Animation - Ball Bouncing Through Obstacle Course
This ball animation is the first time id dabbled in animating 3DS Max. Id done some animation in adobe Flash and adobe Animate and it was nice being able to transfer skills from there over to another piece of software The bouncing ball is a classic animation test as a good bouncing ball animation should show alot of the principles of animation. If I were to do this again i'd add more areas for the ball to bounce as alot of this animation shows it rolling around but I do think the times were it is bouncing are well done.
3D Conveying Weight Animation - Human Character trying to pickup a heavy object
In this animation we had to demonstrate a character trying to pick up a heavy object. I believe the teapot was one of the first items modelled in 3D and is a default object you can create in 3DS Max, so I thought I would use this as my heavy item. The animation is meant to demonstrate a heavy object so I chose to make the teapot so heavy the man couldnt even nudge it which would show how heavy the pot is as the viewer probably has a good idea of how heavy it should be. If I were to do this again id have added some animation to the teapot as I think it would have helped portray what I was going for, however I do believe the man himself is well animated.
3D Fight Scene Animation - 2 Human Characters Fighting
This fight scene is the 2nd time I've animated anything in 3DS Max but it's the first time I'd used the CAT models and tried to animate human characters. I made this animation before the teapot one however ordered them in this way as to match the design brief. Im rather happy with how this animation turned out the only thing I'd change is to have so more punches or kicks towards the start as I had some spare time at the end of the animation which I filled with a walk off, but believe those frames would have been better allocated to some more action.
Lip Sync Animation
For this animation we had to focus on matching the head rig, which we were given, to a piece of audio of our choosing. We had to lip sync the character to the audio while also with giving the character the emotion to match. The audio used is from the original Toy Story movie when Woody and Buzz get left at a petrol station and Woody yells at Buzz trying to convince him that he is a toy and not a space explorer. I chose this audio as Woody had so much emotion in his face and voice compared to Buzz I thought it would help with animating the character. I kept the Buzz part in at the end to try and make a contrast between the 2 voices and show how confident Buzz sounded in the belief that he was a space explorer.
